The Last Pilgrimage: Maybe the Ravens
“The Last Pilgrimage: Maybe the Ravens ” This audiovisual poem is a profound meditation on loss and the hope of resurrection, born from a chillingly sincere promise. The author of the music and lyrics visited a bandmate in the hospital during the final days of his life. Through the window of the room, they watched ravens together during every visit. The bandleader promised the dying musician: “We must write a song about those ravens.” This film is the fulfillment of that debt. Against the backdrop of the haunting yet beautiful music by Aleš Materna, we follow the figure of a plague doctor traversing a monochromatic world stripped of color – a world that fell silent after the departure of a loved one. Here, the ravens appear as “brothers in arms,” accompanying the pilgrim toward his final transformation. The closing scene at the table, stylized after “The Last Supper,” where ravens take the places of the apostles, brings a colorful awakening. It is a moment of resurrection, where the promise becomes reality and death gives way to eternal peace.

Desert Reforestation
The film captures real, unplanned moments as divided communities—rivals in politics, work, and sports—come together for a desert reforestation project. In an environment where conflict would be expected, the tension unexpectedly transforms into powerful bonds of friendship. Even the cinematographer (no youngster, but a spirited 67-year-old guy)is drawn into the action. To save a few young saplings, he sets aside his expensive camera and carefully prepared script to become part of the effort himself. Filmed on the fly with a old pocket camera directly in the heart of the action, the movie delivers a raw, authentic narrative of an extraordinary story. The film is a documentary told exclusively through imagery, without commentary or spoken word. From this experience, the film’s motto was born: To have true meaning, some things must be done, not just filmed."

Sailing for the Crown: Miss Princess Aboard MSC
A global beauty pageant through the eyes of an adventurer. Director Stanislav Skřička captured the journey of the finalists of Miss Princess of the World aboard the luxurious MSC Europa in a way that constantly unsettled the organizers. Skřička takes the girls out of the polished ballrooms and unconventionally places them in the ship’s interiors – in expensive gowns, among steel structures, smoking funnels, and storage areas. The film has no spoken dialogue; it is a visual experience supported by distinctive original music.

The protagonist, František, navigates the complexities of modern-day relationships. When he experiences near-death during an unfolding theatrical drama, he is transported into a dreamlike past life and a possible future. However, these are merely partially perfected sets, hastily constructed by the "Carver of Energies" to guide František toward him. Their encounter leads to a profound understanding of the meaning of life and the vicissitudes of his current existence. (ČSFD)
